Are you looking for a Chevrolet Tow Car?
Look no further than the Chevrolet Captiva 2.2 LT
10 Caravan Experts and 23 vehicles travelled up to Millbrook Proving ground to put to test a wide variety of cars ranging from the VW Jetta to offerings from Land Rover and not forgetting Chevrolet's Captiva to decide on who would win the accolade of 2013 Tow car of the year. The Tow Car of the year tests are supported by the Caravan Club who have 375,000 families as members and between the members own an impressive 500,000 vehicles.
In previous years, vehicles had been categorised by their price, but now they have decided to categorize vehicles by their CO2 emissions, but vehicles were still split into under and over 1,800kg towing capacity.
With the wide range of Caravan's available to people, there is something to suit everyone weather you are looking for something for the odd weekend here and there, or weather you want something to accompany you on your european travels. There is also just as many tow cars available to you depending on what you are towing.
How was the Tow Car of the year test carried out?
Popular caravan manufacturer Baileys provided a range of Caravans to be used for the test. The tow cars are then loaded with weight to simulate a typical family of four and the caravans are loaded to 85% of the manufacture specified kerb weight.
Millbrook Proving ground is very much suited to this, with the ability to use their two-mile high speed bowl track, allowing judges to rate stability and the effect of crosswind at speed. Emergency stops were also included in the tests.
Millbrook Proving ground also has a 'Alpine Hill Route' which allows incline tests to be carried out to simulate a variety of scenarios including hill starts.
A reversing test is also included in the criteria for Tow Car of the Year.
The Chevrolet Captiva won the 2013's Best Tow Car in it's weight category by the Caravan Club.
The Tow Car judges decided that the Chevrolet Captiva is the winner of the 1800kg and over category.
The Chevrolet Captiva was praised for:
- Audible indicator failure warning
- Decent towing information in the handbook
- Noseweight of 80Kg
